Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a website which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit educational site that explores the representation of women in pop cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to destroying the stereotypes of women that exist in pop media, she is also working to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian has a degree in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaking. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at University. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve to be a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards.
